Did you like our classic Soma cube puzzle? How about we give it a twist? Here’s a playful, hands-on puzzle idea that uses numbered cubes. It’s quick to build, great for logical thinking, and perfect for kids and families.
What’s this puzzle?
Take four little cubes numbered 1 → 4, and arrange them such that when viewed from any side, all 4 numbers are seen! It’s a tiny spatial reasoning + sequencing workout — like a micro Soma cube that uses numbering as the rulebook.
Materials
- Four 1 cm cubes
- A marker
Directions
- Arrange four blank 1cm cubes in an order.
- Write numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4.

- Turn all cubes to left and write numbers 1 —> 4 again, but in a different pattern than before.

- Repeat the same process again for the 3rd time and again for the 4th time.

- This will give you four cubes with numbers 1–> 4 written in a random order.
- On the remaining sides of the cubes, write any numbers from 1 —> 4. This creates more possible combinations and adds an extra challenge.
- Your puzzle is ready!
Alternative Idea
Use color. If the numbers get confusing for younger kids, use four different colors for four different numbers instead. Easier to follow and kids love it.
The Challenge
Give the four blocks you created to your friend. Ask them to stack all four cubes on top of each other to make a tower. The only rule is- Arrange the cubes such that each side of the tower shows numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Sounds easy? Well not so much, give it a try!
Wrap-up
This little number tower twist is perfect if you already have a handful of cubes — it turns everyday blocks into a tiny puzzle that is certainly challenging to solve. Time yourself or compete with a friend — it’s a simple way to sneak in math and logic during playtime.
